Sherrie has been a DEFINE superstar client since 2016.  Check out our below to hear about how she started at DEFINE, where her fitness journey has taken her, and how she defines DEFINE.

When did you first start coming to DEFINE? What was your first experience like? I first started coming to DEFINE in January 2016.  I had no idea what to expect but I knew that the traditional gym was not for me and I had zero motivation to go.  When I walked into DEFINE I just loved the studio feel.  Everyone was incredibly welcoming and during my first class the instructor really helped me to make sure I was properly aligned and moving safely.  Even so…I was not sure I was going to make it all the way through the first class – it was challenging!

What class is your favorite and why?  I have loved the body class from the very beginning.  I enjoy the combination of light cardio, strength building and stretching all in one class.  Although, with the new addition of the bounce class I find myself in more and more classes.  I have NEVER been a fan of cardio but this class is so much fun and like nothing I have ever tried before, I continue to go back for more.

DEFINE is a fitness facility, but to some it means more. What does DEFINE mean to you?  DEFINE means community and friends.  I have met so many new and great people and love that we get to catch-up (and sometimes shop) before and after class. DEFINE is always giving back in some way, it’s such a culture of caring and I admire that.

What do you think makes DEFINE different from other fitness methods you have tried?  The instructors are talented, motivational and truly care.   Every class is different and the playlists will definitely inspire you to move.

What would your best advice be to a DEFINE newcomer, or someone who was unsure of trying DEFINE?  I would say start with the Yoga and wine workshop, HA!  I would also say it’s an great place to get an incredible workout and an altogether awesome place to be a part of.

We also know that there’s strength in numbers, the old saying goes, and that’s especially true when it comes to getting the most out of your fitness and wellness routine. Many clients at DEFINE The Woodlands find that the 5 methods of fitness we offer are an excellent way to support exercise programs outside the studio.  In Aimee LaFleur’s case, she was looking for something to compliment her running regimen.

“When I first came to DEFINE I mainly focused on the rev class” Aimee said.  “The body class seemed intimidating to me.  I didn’t have a lot of experience with the strength building elements of the class like pilates, yoga and barre technique, so an entire hour of those activities didn’t always seem doable, but I really loved the cardio aspect of the cycling class.”

However, as the beginning of 2017 drew near, Aimee felt that it was time to conquer her trepidations about strength building and give body a shot.

“I signed up for the Holiday Special and made myself pick the Strength package,” she said.  “I knew that training for my races was depleting some of my strength, so I wanted to take classes that would help me build and maintain my muscle tone.”

Aimee began integrating more body classes into her routine but found it was sometimes difficult to fit them into her schedule.  Still, she really wanted to push herself.  That’s where having an external goal – the 2017 March DEFINE Challenge – really came to benefit her.

“20 classes in 30 days definitely seemed challenging,” Aimee said.  “But it also seemed manageable and conquerable.  “I set the goal to complete the challenge, and knowing that I only had a narrow timeframe to fit in the classes pushed me to really be consistent.”

Throughout the month Aimee attended 5 classes each of body, rev/bounce, and mind/yoga.

“I took the mind class for the first time ever during the challenge and really gained a new appreciation for stretching, and how flexibility is also a really important aspect of fitness,” she said.  “The entire experience brought awareness to how much I’m truly capable of accomplishing.  I also liked how taking the classes in combination with each other creates a really balanced workout experience.”

Those who completed the March Challenge entered a drawing for a private class and Aimee was thrilled for the opportunity to share DEFINE when her name was selected.

“I think I’m the most excited about sharing the bounce class,” she said.  “It’s such a unique offering of DEFINE’s and I love how with the trampolines you can incorporate elements of cardio, weight lifting, barre technique and even pilates.  It gives you a well-balanced full body workout.  That’s something that you can apply to each part of your life and a big reason why I would recommend DEFINE to everyone, no matter their fitness level.  The instructors and clients at DEFINE are motivating and encouraging, and you will find that you are capable of so much more than you think.”

Strength, length and balance.  You hear us say it all the time in our classes at DEFINE, but sometimes it can be a challenge to find balance within our daily lives – especially when it comes to finding personal time, and time to spend with our families.

“We all find our lives getting busier and busier,” said longtime client Janet Amador.  “But having my family who are the loves of my life attend classes with me makes me look forward to going even more.”

Janet began attending classes at DEFINE upon referral from friend, and she was quick to invite her family members to her workouts.

“I look forward to seeing my family at DEFINE,” Janet said.  “I love that I can get some one-on-one time with them that’s hard to find in other aspects of life, and I get to do something good for myself at the same time.”

Her daughter Kristin Bumpass was especially quick to take up the multiple methods DEFINE offers.

“I found out about DEFINE through my mom’s publication Behind the Gates,” said Kristin.  “The first class I took was body.   I was a fitness fanatic and I was always on the lookout for a workout that was challenging, but still fun, and that felt worthwhile.  I absolutely found that here.”

Janet and Kristin both loved that the classes at DEFINE offered high quality instruction and a variety of different disciplines such as barre, yoga, pilates, trampoline fitness and cycling all in one place – but it was the sense of community and family that they found at the studio that made them eager to share it with their own.

“There is such a friendly feeling here,” Kristin said.  “There isn’t the cattiness or competitive feeling that I’ve felt at other gyms and studios.  I think that’s another part of the reason I feel so comfortable bringing my family to DEFINE – it’s easy to share the feeling of community I feel with the clients and staff here with my family, and vice-versa.”

Janet and Kristin found the classes at DEFINE to be especially effective for finding time to spend with Janet’s eldest granddaughter and Kristen’s niece Avery Palacios.

“As Avery turned 15, she outgrew many of the activities her younger siblings and cousins still participated in,” Janet said.  “I wasn’t able to see her as much as I used to, so I thought I would invite her to take classes.”

Like Janet and Kristin, Avery quickly found a connection to the classes at DEFINE.

“The people at DEFINE, the amazing classes, and especially being able to do something I enjoy with my Mimi keep me coming back to classes as often as I can,” Avery said.  “I like being able to share DEFINE with my family because it’s not an average outing.  It’s something that is unique and that we are all able to experience and remember together forever.

“I also love that it lets us spend time with each other, while also doing something good for ourselves. It makes me feel like I am simultaneously strengthening my body and my relationships.”

To Janet, Kristin and Avery the DEFINE difference is clear:

“DEFINE is so personal compared to other fitness programs,” Avery said.  “People here are so welcoming, loving and joyful.  This is a place where you get amazing exercise and you build strength not only in your body, but also your mind.  To me, DEFINE is a family-like unit where people grow stronger together.  It makes me want to be there as much as possible, growing stronger with myself, my family and the DEFINE family.”
